Kapsalon is a Dutch food item consisting of fries, topped with döner or shawarma meat, grilled with a layer of Gouda cheese until melted and then subsequently covered with a layer of dressed salad greens. Yummy!
- 3 small aluminium oven dishes
- 2 chicken breasts skinless and boneless
- 400 g (14 oz) french fries
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 red onion
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1/2 pekingese cabbage
- 250 g (9 oz) Gouda cheese (or other)
For the chicken spices
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons yoghurt
- 2 cloves of garlic minced
- salt and pepper
Pre-heat the oven to 220 degrees Celcius (430 F).
Put the fries on a baking tray covered with baking parchment. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes.
Heat some oil or baking spray in a pan and fry the chicken until it is done. Sprinkle with the chicken spices, to taste.
Take the fries out of the oven and put them into the aluminium dish. Put the pieces of chicken on top and on top of that grated cheese.
Lower the temperature of the oven to 180 degrees Celcius (350 F) and put the dish in the oven for 5 minutes, until the cheese has melted.
In the meantime, mix the yoghurt with the mayonnaise, garlic, some salt and pepper.
Cut the tomato, onion, cucumber into thin slices.
Take the kapsalon out of the oven and put Pekingese cabbage, tomato, onion and cucumber on top. Finally, sprinkle the yoghurt-mayonnaise on top and serve immediately.
